G000565 GERMAN HONOR MEDAL OF THE WORLD WAR. (Deutsche Ehrendenkmünze des Weltkrieges) A 32mm diameter, bronze washed, stamped alloy medal, which has, to its obverse, the image of an angel about to place a wreath of laurels upon the head of a German soldier. The soldier’s helmet is in his right hand, while his left holds a rifle, a first class Iron Cross may be seen pinned to his breast, and a bayonet, with tassel, is slung from his belt. To the reverse of the medal is the image of a 1914 Iron Cross, with oak leaves and acorns along its base, and "Fürs Vaterland" (For-the Fatherland) arching above it. A small ring passes through the perforation to the extended top of the medal, through which passes the larger loop for its, absent, ribbon. Medal is sewn to a piece of EK2 ribbon.
