G000456 M1866 EM/NCO'S MARCHING BOOTS. (Marschstiefel)

BACKGROUND: Originally developed in 1866, the "side seamed" marching boot remained in service all the way through WW1 and into the Reichswehr. The only change was the regulation that came into effect in 1915 that the boots were to be blackened.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A very nice pair of wartime blackened boots. Roughly 12 ½ " tall, blackened leather boots, stacked leather heels have metal horseshoe plates and forward soles have metal half-moon plates to the toe and hobnails. Both pull-tabs to the interior of each boot are intact and undamaged. Both of the boots exhibit the expected age and usage wear, but almost all of their stitching appears to be intact, and the leather is still relatively supple. The hobnails and plate to the soles are moderately surface spotted, which is to be expected for the age. Would estimate about a size 9. Nice.
