H55452 MANEUVER CONTROL OFFICER'S VEHICLE PENNANT.
(Fahrzeug Wimpel für Manöver Offizier)BACKGROUND: Following an age old military tradition the German armed forces of the Third Reich utilized a wide variety of identifying flags and pennants to distinguish Officers and Headquarters and included specific flags and pennants for use by Officer’s who were tasked with controlling and umpiring battle and maneuver training. Battle and maneuver training in the German armed forces was very intense and live-fire was commonly used to simulate realistic combat conditions. The German High Command considered training casualties of 1% were acceptable and resulted in weeding out incompetent personnel. Of Note: In order to identify personnel on opposing sides during battle and maneuver training personnel on the attacking side wore a red band on their helmets and personnel on the defending side wore a yellow band on their helmets. Battle and training maneuver control and umpire Officer’s were issued with a plain white band which would fit on most headgear to distinguish themselves from the participants.
