H37352 MACHINE GUN COMPANY TRAINING BOOK. (Unterrichtbuch) A 4 1/8" x 5 3/4", soft cover, 208 page book entitled "Ausbildungsvorschrift für die Infanterie (A.B.I.)" (Training-instruction for the Infantry (A.B.I.)), "Heft 3a" (Number 3a), and sub-titled "Die Maschinengewehrkompanie"(The Machine-gun-company). "H.Dv. 130/3a" is printed to the upper left of the blue cover, which indicates its publication, as a numbered part of a series, by the "Heeresdruckvorschriftenverwaltung" (Army-regulations-administration). A "1936" date, and the publisher’s name and address, is to the base of the cover. Ink stamped to the cover, and to the same place to the title page, which is identical to the cover, is an eagle and swastika with crossed swords, encircled by "Soldatenbund e.V." (Soldiers’-league ["eingetragener Verein"] registered Organization), "Bandsgruppe IV" (Band-group 4), and "Soldatenkameradschaft Meerane" (Soldiers’-fellowship Meerane). The book is divided into five main sections. The first section, which comprises almost half of the text, details individual training with the M.G. 08, and features thirty-eight black and white photographs of uniformed soldiers with the machine gun. The second section concerns itself with the deployment of the machine gun crew in the field, and is illustrated with six charts and four photographs. The third section is entitled "Der Zug" (The Section), and it addresses different aspects of close combat training, with five tactical and troop formation charts. The fourth section, entitled "Der Kompanie" (The Company), features, among other things, instructions for defence against aircraft, gas, and tank attacks, and it has three charts. The concluding section has charts of hand, colored light, and bugle signals, and an explanation of the symbols used in the tactical and troop formation charts. To the inside of the back cover are two, 7 7/8" x 10 3/4", fold-out tables, the first being a "Bildliche Darstellung des Überschießens beim Angriff" (Figurative Representation of-the Overshooting during-the Attack), and the second a "Bildliche Darstellung des Überschießens in der Verteidigung" (Figurative Representation of-the Overshooting in the Defence). The fold-out tables are in excellent condition, as are the pages, with very little age yellowing and almost no soiling. The covers are very lightly soiled, and its spine is slightly color faded.
