H100562 ISSUED CANNED BREAD RATION. (Büchsen konserviertes Brot)
BACKGROUND: German army regulations authorized each combat soldier a daily food ration which was generally distributed from the units field kitchen but this wasn’t always possible in combat situations. As a result front line combat soldiers were to be supplied with a canned iron ration and some bread to be carried individually in the event that food from the field kitchen couldn’t reach their positions.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Original can of German army bread rations. Roughly 12cm tall with a 10cm diameter. Can is well marked and dated for 1944. Unopened, original contents still present. Shows the age, but overall nice condition. Very rare to find with original contents intact.
