H093865 RUSSIAN VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT POSTER.

BACKGROUND: By 1943 continuing manpower shortages forced the German army to start accepting ethnic Russians into service although this was still forbidden by Hitler. Hitler did however see the advantage of exploiting any anti-communist feelings amongst the Russian populace. Full equality of Eastern personnel volunteers and auxiliaries became constituted in 1944 resulting in promotions to NCO ranks. A standardized uniform also became a necessity with insignia including a special national emblem that would be worn in lieu of the German national emblem.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A 42cm x 59cm color poster depicting a German Panzer soldier next to a Russian Volunteer. To the bottom right corner is printed "Am Panzer/Russisch." There is a fold to the center with some tearing to the edges, but overall a good example. Rare.
