H079360 6 X 30 POWER ISSUE FIELD BINOCULARS.
(Doppelfernrohr)BACKGROUND: The German army used a wide variety of optical enhancement items with the 6 x 30 power, (6 power magnification with a 30mm diameter objective lens), binoculars being the standard issue optics utilized by all branches of service. Although the 6 x 30 power binoculars were the standard issue, specialized personnel such as Artillery observers, Reconnaissance personnel, Searchlight personnel, etc., required stronger optics and assorted larger power binoculars were issued to these specialized personnel on a limited basis. When issued the binoculars came with a variety of assorted accessories.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Tooled brass and aluminum alloy construction, 6 x 30, power, binoculars with molded black bakelite fittings and a simulated, grained textured black leather covering. The lens bodies retain over 95% of their simulated, grained textured black leather coverings with a small chip, a couple of cracks and moderate chafe wear that has worn some of the grained texturing to a smooth finish. The brass alloy end piece fittings retain about 80% of their slightly textured black painted finish with small spots of wear to the base brass. The binoculars have molded, black bakelite eye sockets which are fully intact. Only the right eye socket focus adjustment still functions and the optics are quite blurred and smoky and show some light fungal spotting. The right lens has a horizontal, reticle pattern with vertical bars emanating from the center, outward, to either side in increments of 10 degrees up to 40 degrees to each side. The central lens joining bracket with swivel, width adjustment is intact and still functions. The forward end of the
central lens joining bracket has a faint stamped marking that appears to include the date, "41" and the forward bottom edge has a stamped serial number, "200141". The bottom edge of each of the lenses bodies have a small, raised, cut-out bar designed to secure the carrying strap. The binoculars come with a roughly, 33 3/4" long, 3/8" wide, blackened leather carrying strap. The strap has dual stud eyelets and a brass retaining stud to one end, but the other end has torn. The right hand side, ocular end, body panel is well marked with the faint, impressed designation, "6 x 30", a serial number that appears to be, "200252", a, "+" sign lubricant code, indicating lubricant type 1442 which was effective in temperatures as cold as -40 degrees Celsius/Fahrenheit and the manufacturer’s three letter code, "cxn", indicating manufacture by Emil Busch A.-G. Optische Industrie of Rathenow.GRADE *** PRICE $78.00
