H06151 GW 41 BLANK FIRING ADAPTOR. (Exerzierpatrone Verbindungsröhre)

BACKGROUND: Requests from the field for a semi-automatic rifle brought about the development of the Gewehr 41 (W) which, with modifications evolved into the Gewehr 43 and eventually the Karabiner 43. The GW41 and later the GW/K43's were all semi-automatic gas operated weapons with muzzle or barrel vents. The compressed combustion gasses activated the internal components when the weapons were fired. In an attempt to replicate the most realistic combat conditions possible the German army used live fire training exercises and found a one percent training fatality rate as acceptable, reasoning it was better to remove inadequate personnel in training as opposed to having them risk other lives in actual battle. Although the German’s did use live fire training exercises, for economic reasons they also utilized blank "dummy", ammunition for fire training. When the GW41, GW/K43's were used for blank firing they had tp outfitted with a blank firing adaptor for release of the gasses.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Blued, tooled steel construction blank firing adaptor for the GW41. The adaptor is roughly 2 3/4" long with a 5/8" diameter forward edge and a 1" diameter rear edge with a hexagonal shaped outer border. The forward edge has a small gas vent hole and the rear edge has internal screw threads to affix it to the end of the barrel of the GW41. The adaptor retains about 95% of its original bluing and shows light to moderate surface spotting and pitting. Scarce GW41 accessory.
