H057960 JÄGER TROOPER'S CAP BADGE. (Mützen Abzeichen für Jäger )
BACKGROUND: German Jäger Divisions were first formed in December 1940, by reorganizing Infantry Divisions into light pursuit divisions. The Jäger Divisions were organized and equipped similar to that of the Mountain Divisions without the specialized mountaineering equipment. On October 2ND 1942 distinctive insignia was introduced for all Jäger personnel with a cloth version to be worn on the upper right sleeve of the greatcoat, service and uniform tunics and the field blouse and a metal version for wear on the left side of all field caps. Regulations dictated that both the Jäger’s sleeve and cap insignia were to be removed if the individual was transferred out of a Jäger unit.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Roughly, 2 1/8" tall, 1 3/8" wide, matte silver washed, green over-painted, die stamped, alloy construction Jäger personnel’s cap badge is in the form of three overlapping oak-leaves with the center leaf overlapping the other two and a single stem and acorn. The badge is nicely detailed with a subtly pebbled background field to the oak-leaves and embossed "veins". The reverse of the badge is a mirror image of obverse and both of the original, soldered, attachment prongs on a circular base plate are intact. The badge is in overall very good, condition and retains about 85% of it’s green over-paint that appears to have been period applied. The badge has no visible manufacturer’s markings.
