BACKGROUND: German Jäger Divisions were first formed in December 1940, by reorganizing Infantry Divisions into light pursuit divisions. The Jäger Divisions were organized and equipped similar to that of the Mountain Divisions. On October 2ND 1942 distinctive insignia was introduced for all Jäger personnel with a cloth version to be worn on the upper right sleeve of the greatcoat, service and uniform tunics and the field blouse and a metal version for wear on the left side of all field caps.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Roughly, 2 1/4" tall, stamped, polished alloy construction Jäger personnel’s cap badge is in the form of three overlapping oak-leaves with the centre leaf overlapping the other two and a single stem and acorn. The badge is nicely detailed with a subtly pebbled background field to the oak-leaves and embossed "veins". The reverse of the badge is a mirror image of obverse and all three integral bent over attachment prongs are intact. The badge is still very clean and bright. The badge has no visible manufacturers markings.
