BACKGROUND: Although considered highly mobilized for its time the German army still utilized a great number of horses and basic foot power and as a result foot care and comfort was of prime importance. As an indication of the importance of foot care, company NCO’s would regularly perform a foot inspection of his units personnel looking for signs of foot ailments which could result in immobilizing the soldier. Through the course of the war German personnel marched through pretty much the whole of western Europe at one point or another. Besides the issue footwear along with socks and/or foot wraps personnel could opt to privately purchase additional foot care items such as insoles.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Private purchase, compressed, cut and formed boot insoles that measure approximately 20cm long of ersatz paper material. The insoles are still held together by the manufactures original natural tan paper label with red printed script. The insoles are in overall excellent unused condition. Neat personal item.
