H025357 REMEMBRANCE CARD. (Erinnerungskarten)

BACKGROUND: A common practice in Europe that continues to this day, is the issue of a remembrance card on the death of a family member. These would be distributed to friends and family as a memorial item.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Roughly, 4 1/8" x 3", light weight, card stock remembrance card with black printed script. Interestingly this example doesn’t include the usual photograph of the individual. The script indicates that after a happy, twenty-five year marriage that produced eleven children, the individual died while in Russian captivity in a hospital near Lemberg on, "1. August 1946". Additional script indicates he was predeceased by two years by one of his sons who also died a soldiers death. The card is in overall good condition with minor age yellowing.
