H025268 M31 BREADBAG WITH STRAP. (Brotbeutel 31)

BACKGROUND: The standard issue M31 haversack, commonly referred to as the "breadbag", was based on the M1887 haversack and was adopted by the Wehrmacht as well as a wide variety of uniformed and non-uniformed political and paramilitary organizations in 1931. The main variation in breadbags used by political and para-military personnel as opposed to Wehrmacht personnel was the color. The breadbag was designed to carry rations, eating utensils and other assorted personal items.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Olive drab, water repellent, canvas construction bread bag with cotton/rayon, leather, steel and alloy fittings. All buttons and straps are complete. The underside of the flap is stamped with the "RB-Nr. 0/0448/0078". Included is a canvas constructed, 3cm wide strap in the same colour and material as the bag, with a metal adjustment buckle to it that is sewn directly to the top seam. To the interior of the fold-over flap are two vertical black leather straps, each with two buckling holes. These mate with aluminum dish buttons sewn to either side of the base of the bag’s main body. Descending from the top interior center, where the bag meets the fold-over flap, is another vertical webbed canvas strap, this one with three buckling holes, which mates with an aluminum dish button sewn to the top center of the bag itself. Near mint!
