BACKGROUND: A common practice in Europe that continues to this day, is the issue of a remembrance card on the death of a family member. These would be distributed to friends and family as a memorial item.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Roughly, 4 1/2" x 2 5/8", light weight, card stock remembrance card with printed script and a black and white photograph of a young, "Soldat", wearing a field-grey visor cap and a M35 dress tunic. The visible uniform details include the cap insignia, shoulder straps, collar tabs and a breast eagle. The script indicates the individual served in a "grenadier-Rgt.", and fell in battle near "Tscherkasn", in Russia on , "6. Oktober 1943". The card is in overall good condition with minor age yellowing.
