BACKGROUND: During the war the early M34 and M39 "pony fur" backpacks were found to be too expensive and time consuming to produce which resulted in the production of a wide variety of less expensive canvas construction combat rucksacks and backpacks.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Coarsely woven, olive drab canvas construction combat rucksack with blackened leather, web steel and alloy fittings. The rucksack is roughly, 40cm tall, 48cm" wide, with 11cm deep side panels. All of the straps, buckles and buttons are in decent condition showing normal age. Several small holes, but overall decent complete example showing normal period use. Designed to be used in conjunction with the combat Y-straps.
