H014257 DZG SNIPER’S PERISCOPE. (Deckungszielgerät) An approximately 16" tall sheet metal periscope, painted feldgrau. It is capped at either of its 1 7/8" diameter ends, with the surround to its ocular lens soldered near the base, and the sloped surround to its 1 3/8" diameter objective lens soldered to the opposite side near its top. Its optics are noticeably dirty, but otherwise clear. Moderate surface scratching and edge wear is evident to its paint. Although it is similar to a trench periscope in outwards appearance, it is actually part of an elaborate, and extremely rare, sniper’s scope, called the "Deckungszielgerät" (Covered-sight-device).
