BACKGROUND: A common practice in Europe that continues to this day, is the issue of a remembrance card on the death of a family member. These would be distributed to friends and family as a memorial item.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Roughly, 4 1/8" x 5 1/4", light weight, dual-fold, card stock remembrance card with printed script and a close-up, black and white photograph of a, "Wachtmeister", serving in a, "Gebirgs-J.R.", (Mountain Troop Regiment), wearing a field-grey mountain trooper’s cap and field blouse. The visible uniform details include the cap insignia, which interestingly consists of a wreathed police eagle and edelweiss, and the collar tabs. The script indicates the individual died in battle on, "2. September 1944", near, "Bonneville", in southern France. The card is in overall good condition with light age yellowing.
