H00288 TELLER MINE CARRYING CASE. (Minenkasten) Developed in 1935 the Teller mine was to become the most widely used German anti-tank mine during WWII and was designed in at least four different models. 19 5/8" x 14 5/8" x 15 1/2", nicely constructed wooden box with a dark brown protective stain. Case features a tongue and groove slat top, solid bottom and sides with dovetailed corner joints. Top and front of case each have two, thick, screwed on, reinforcement slats. One of the top slats appears to have been repositioned. Fold back top lid has two inset metal hinges to reverse and two metal pressure closure clips to obverse. Top lid also has two metal reinforcement plates to two corners. Each side of case has a screwed on, inset metal plate with heavy, metal bar swivel handles. Top lid has white stenciled script, "4 T. Mi. 35", indicating 4 Teller Mines, model 35. One side of case has an impressed waffen-amt and manufactures code and date, "kga 1942", indicating manufacture by Steinheimer Kunst u. Möbelindustrie in 1942. Front of case has remnants of two printed contents decals. One decal has partially legible script that indicates the case held Teller Mine (Pilz) 43, at one time. Natural wood interior has had frame work removed leaving screw holes to both interior and exterior front and back. One side has an inset metal plate with a short section of webbing screwed on. Interior top lid has remnants of a contents decal, as on exterior. Case shows normal usage dents and dings. Metal fixtures all retain remnants of their original black paint and show moderate surface spotting. Stenciled script and decal remnants seem to indicate case was used for both the Teller Mine 35 and the later Teller Mine (Pilz) 43. Case would contain four mines.
