Clyde Spencer (Calgary Highlanders R.C.I.C.)

My uncle Clyde, unfortunately who I never had a chance to meet. He was killed in Holland on May 2nd.1945, just a month before the war ended. The story, as I remember my grandfather telling me, was that Clyde (a medic at that time) and a Dutch civilian were travelling by jeep near Nijmegan. They pulled off the road to let a convoy by and struck a landmine. Both Clyde & the civilian were killed instantly.

As a kid, I can still remember the photo of Clyde proudly standing next to his shinny brand new Bren gun carrier. The photo was no doubt taken in Alberta before going overseas. As soon as I find it, will post it here.

Clyde is buried at the Groesbeak Canadian War Cemetery in Nijmegan.
